If You Like The Beach Boys, Listen to Summer Salt
By Yasmin Ettobi
Summer is right around the corner, and chances are, you’re in desperate need of new tunes to throw on while unwinding in the sun. Well, look no further, for Texas trio Summer Salt have been creating music perfect for this situation since 2015, and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
After touring with groups such as The Walters and Turnover, the buzz around Summer Salt grows bigger by the day. This comes as no surprise; the sweet, simple, yet absolutely delightful tunes the group produces are near impossible to not fall in love with completely. Crystalline vocals from Matthew Terry, bouncing basslines via Phil Baier, and Eugene Chung’s light yet absolutely vital drumming all come together in a magical way throughout Summer Salt’s entire discography.
Many have cited the band to be a modern day version of The Beach Boys, and similarities can definitely be drawn from both group’s knack for writing memorable guitar riffs, catchy choruses, and exquisite vocal harmonies. However, Summer Salt’s talent speaks for itself within songs such as “Driving to Hawaii” and “Sweet to Me,” where clever songwriting and an incredible melodyline shine bright.
As a relatively new band to the scene, Summer Salt only has three EPs and a couple of holiday-themed singles available to the public at the moment. If you can’t get enough of the trio’s tunes, don’t fret, for they have a lot of exciting things happening in their future, such as the release of a full length album and their first headlining tour this summer. Summer Salt may make songs perfect for the warmer months of the year, but don’t let that stop you from listening to them throughout the entire year!
