Irish pop/rock group The Academic has been making some pretty major waves in the indie world lately, and they don’t seem to be coming down anytime soon.
This four-piece band, composed of Craig Fitzgerald, Matt Murtagh, Stephen Murtagh, and Dean Gavin, have been making a name for themselves since early 2015 with their first single, “Different.” Since then, they’ve been touring and releasing singles and EP’s non-stop, opening for some of the biggest names in alternative music, such as The Strokes and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
More recently, they’ve reached new heights and received international attention with the music video for their single “Bear Claws.” Being the first band to ever do this, they used the loop feature of Facebook livestreams to add layers to the track and build up to the full performance, all in one take. With nearly two million views on YouTube and counting, it’s needless to say this music video might be coolest one you’ve seen in awhile.
As of now, The Academic is in Europe supporting The Kooks and playing their own headline shows. They also just recently announced their upcoming debut album Tales From The Backseat and released a new single “Permanent Vacation,” in anticipation for the album. The Academic are definitely making it big, and we can’t wait for what’s in store for them in the future!
